    Morning JD -

The monthly seems reasonable – actually at around $10 Canadian a month, it’s better than reasonable. I’m assuming that you have to be registered and logged in as well as a donor/member in order to access the other options. I’m also assuming that when I get to that stage of the donation process, I’ll be able to set it up so that PayPal dings the VISA every month which is an option available on several Canadian sites that run on a donation/subscription basis.

So, I figured I’d better register as a ‘member’ before starting the donations – which is where I’ve run into a problem. Filled in the required information, submitted, and was told I’d shortly get an email with a password (which I assume is an initial one). Many hours have passed with no email and no password. I’ve also tried the old ‘forgot password’ routine, but that’s been unsuccessful as well. Any suggestions as to where I’ve gone wrong?

I want to get this all in place for January 1 so Moving Gardens is in sync with my other content subscriptions. Besides, Gardeners World and Beechgrove Garden usually start up in March.

Speaking of GW, do you ever come across episodes from 2007, 2008 or 2009 (or any pre-2005)? I’ve never been able to access any via torrents – although I know xxxxxxx.xxx has some, they are a private tracker strictly limited to members who can upload fresh, non-duplicated British programming – which is difficult for those of us who don’t live in Britain. And unlike some private trackers, they don’t have open days when non-members can access and download material.

      Hi Tim,

I tested the password email thing with quite a few accounts, and the only one I had problems with was a gmail account, which put my email straight to the trash – because its so small (just a name pass combo) google said it matched its criteria for spam, so first thing is I’d say check the junk. All the other accounts I tested it with had the mail through within a minute.

I’m in no way a paypal expert – I’m barely competent :) , but I’m fairly certain you can set it up the same as the others.

As for the earlier GW episodes, I have a smattering of episodes going back to 2005. I’ve avoided posting them en-mass so that I’ve got something to post up over the winter.

Let me know if you have any more problems. :)

Well, it’s Sunday morning, and I’m still waiting for the system to send an initial password to my email and complete the last stage of the donation/registration process.

I don’t think it’s a glitch in PayPal at either end since it was possible to set up a recurring payment, and the money did get to your account. However, is it possible that something in the log-in system has difficulty recognizing PayPal business(merchant) accounts as legitimate? I noticed Friday when we tried a complete reboot that in the statements from PayPal it was treated as a merchant to merchant transaction. I use my business PayPal for a monthly subscription fee/donation with another web-based content provider which generates a “Subscription Receipt for $00.00 per month for 00000000″. The receipt includes not only standard information on billing date and auto renewal, but contact name and email and a subscriber number/initial password for activation. The only reason I noticed the difference was that I was renewing my subscription with them Friday morning right after the first try at starting a new subscription with you.

J.D., I do wish I wasn’t the one triggering test glitches in your system. I just want to get that initial password, complete the registration process and resume enjoying the site.

    Regards,

    Tim

      Tim,

Have you received any emails from me? Over the last few days I’ve sent an email letting you know I’d reset the users, another asking about the GW episodes you have, and another yesterday with a password that I’d generated here and inserted into the tables directly – a nic/pw combo I tried and which worked without a problem.

If you’re not getting any emails from @moving-gardens, then thats the problem – some sort of filter seems the most likely culprit.

I’ve had a handful of donators already, and no-one else has had a problem as far as I can tell, so I’m pretty sure things are working as they should from here.

I’ll send you an email from a personal account, please let me know if you get this one :)

      All the best :)

        JD,

The clue was in the filter. After an hour on the phone with my ISP (Bell Canada) which out-sourced email management to Microsoft, I think we’ve got it straightened out. Microsoft was dumping all your emails into an invisible spam folder, and just letting the RSS feed notes through. Because it was a special Microsoft folder, your emails didn’t even appear in my junk/spam folder. Bell and I reset the various preferences so that Moving-Gardens is privileged now, but I’d still appreciate an email just to check.

I’m going to try logging in with the random password. Stay tuned.

        Wish me luck,

        Tim

        Success!

I’m logged in. Yippee! (send an email anyway, so I see that MicroSoft mail manager is under control)

After New Year’s, I’ll be asking for help in learning how to upload to RapidShare. Sometimes I’m a real klutz when learning a new computer application.

        Merry Christmas to all!

        Tim
