Alan Titchmarsh and his team return for fifth series of the makeover show in which they transform unloved spaces into dream gardens for some very special people. In the first episode, Alan and the gang travel to Walsall, where they plan to surprise a young widow.
Ep01 - Nina Perrin Seedhouse has three children under seven, and with a trio of youngsters to look after, she has not had time for anything else much - consequently her garden is just a bare, blank canvas. Nina's husband Gareth died last year after a long battle with cancer. Gareth was something of a local hero who worked tirelessly for Walsall Council most of his life. Now it is up to Alan and his team to give the family the dream garden that Gareth would have wanted them to have. Their small empty patch, with its abundance of red brick walls and bare fencing, is spectacularly transformed to fit a magical play area for the children, a chill-out zone for mum and a succession of stunning features.
Ep02 - In the second episode, they visit Moorland in Somerset - an area which was devastated by the floods of 2014. There they surprise a couple whose lives - and garden - were turned upside down by the disaster.
Ep03 - Alan Titchmarsh and the team head for in rural Cornwall, where they create a spectacular contemporary garden for Chris Finney, the youngest serviceman to be awarded the George Cross medal. A space age inspired area – complete with solar-dome – will test Chris’s knowledge as a novice gardener, and provide a stimulating haven for his young family to grow up in.
Ep04 - This week Alan and the gang are in Chessington, where they create a car-themed garden with some of the most inventive features ever seen in the series. The quirky outdoor sanctuary is for an unlikely hero - hospital worker and vintage car enthusiast Alan Rendall.
Ep05 - Alan Titchmarsh and the team are in Hemel Hempstead, where they meet award-winning deaf couple Asif Iqbal and wife Sabina. The green-fingered experts attempt to turn a boring lawn and crumbling patio into a Bollywood dream garden with an outdoor kitchen.
Ep06 - Alan Titchmarsh and his team of green-fingered experts arrive in Hull to help transform an unkempt garden into a grown-up Mediterranean hideaway.
Ep07 - Alan Titchmarsh and his team come to the aid of nonagenarian Roberta and her 86-year-old best friend and carer Enid, who live together in a retirement bungalow in Wiveliscombe, Somerset. Originally from Liverpool, the two plucky pensioners have helped each other out countless times throughout the course of their friendship, which has lasted seven decades. However, they now find themselves trapped in their home by a treacherous slope in their garden, so Alan plans to set them free by designing a future-proofed garden in a vintage style.
Ep08 - Alan Titchmarsh and the team are in Dorset creating an exciting garden for a young family. His idea for the Drakes is to give them an outdoor space that reflects terminally ill dad Andrew’s love of the great outdoors and his passion for working with wood. He opts for a garden with a frontier-land theme that Andrew, wife Rachel and their young son Lucas can enjoy, creating a prairie-inspired back yard of big scale rustic wood structures, agricultural motifs with craftsmanship and the spirit of adventure at its core.
