The Big Allotment Challenge s01.

Nine pairs of the country's best allotmenteers take part in The Big Allotment Challenge, a brand new series hosted by Fern Britton. Over six episodes they are put to the test, as they attempt to harvest prize-winning fruits, vegetables and flowers for show day. Plus, their preserving skills will be tested to the limit as they are challenged to produce jams, chutneys, cordials, pickles and jellies.

All the challenges are devised by award-winning gardener Jim Buttress, international floral designer Jonathan Moseley and Queen of Preserves Thane Prince who are on hand to judge and taste their efforts.

Josh gets busy with some autumn jobs to keep his garden looking good after the long, hot summer, Sophie visits a cafe owner who grows her own organic fruit and vegetables at home using some techniques inspired by nature and Costa drops into a production nursery growing plants as well as the skills of people with disabilities. Autumn signals a slowing of pace in Jerry's garden, so he's planting tomatoes, protecting beneficials and dealing with insect pests while John visits a garden designer who has created a beautiful home garden with a mixture of native and exotic plants, which thrive in the challenging conditions.
